Philips Lighting, LED platform development was a department within Philips Lighting that did predevelopment of LED drivers and modules. Their focus was mainly on low cost, retrofit and dimmer/ballast compatibility.
For a project with as goal to create new building blocks for one of our product development departments and for creating IP there was a need for an energy measurement circuit and for a DALI (=Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) power supply circuit.
As Electronics designer I was responsible for creating concepts for the energy measurement circuit and DALI power supply.
For this project I did the following tasks:
- Analysed existing concepts
- Created new concepts
- Made prototypes of the most promising concepts
- Developed the algorithm for the energy measurement circuit together with a software engineer
- Documented new building blocks
- Submitted a patent request for one of the energy measurement circuit concepts
Two of the concepts ended up in commercial products (one energy measurements circuit concepts and one DALI power supply concept) and one of the energy measurement circuit concepts is patented.
