Philips Lighting, LED platform development was a department within Philips Lighting that did predevelopment of LED drivers and modules. Their focus was mainly on low cost, retrofit and dimmer/ballast compatibility.
Lighting already had a dimmable LED based halogen replacement, however the colour temperature does not change during dimming. Incandescent and halogen lamps become warmer during dimming what positively influences the ambiance, this behaviour is also desired in LED lamps.
As Electronics Designer I was responsible for designing the add-on circuit required to make the existing dimmable lamp become warmer during dimming.
The activities I did for this project, were:
- I analysed all the existing and new solutions
- Made a design based on one of the existing concepts
- Created a PCB together with a layout engineer
- Made samples and evaluated them
- Made demo lamps
The demo was well received and the design was transferred to the product development department where they further developed it into commercial products.
