Philips Innovation Services is an Engineering firm within Philips. They provide resources and services to other business units within Philips and to clients outside of Philips. The Electronic Products & Systems department focuses on product development. Philips Innovation Services have in the past created the life light and they wanted to pitch a special version to Coca cola. The life light is a product intended for development countries and consists of a lamp with battery, solar panel and a USB charging port. For Coca cola they wanted to expand the unit with three extra charging ports.
As Electronics Designer I was responsible for designing a new front end with maximum power point (MPP) tracker and adding three extra charging ports.
My tasks were:
- Design new front end that can handle a higher power throughput
- Develop required MPP tracker algorithm together with the software engineer
- Update circuit with new front end, extra charging ports and adapted interface to the micro processor
- Evaluate samples
- Document the adapted design
- Prepare demo´s for the pitch
I finished the new design and created the required demo´s on time for the pitch.
