Low cost LED driver platform

Philips Lighting Home Luminaires develops and sells luminaires for the consumer market. They have a large portfolio with luminaires in various shapes and sizes. Although they already have a number of LED driver platforms, they are always looking for better and cheaper solutions.

As Senior Electronics Designer I was responsible for developing a new low-cost dimmable driver platform that is suitable for large number of their products.

This involved the following activities:

  • Two designs were made based on a linear and switched mode concept from Philips Research
  • Created PCB´s together with a layout engineer, where my focus was mainly on EMC
  • Compared both concepts with respect to cost and performance. The switched mode concept was chosen
  • Made two improved designs based on the switch mode concept
  • EMC pre compliance testing to discover and solve potential EMC issues
  • Documented the design and concept comparison
  • Supported the product development

I finished the concept scoping and predevelopment in time and transferred it to product development and together with my support the platform was successfully implemented in several luminaires.
