Philips Healthcare develop and sell medical devices intended for clinics and hospitals, like x-ray and MRI devices. These are expensive devices and clients have high expectations with respect to performance, quality and life time. The iXR (= Interventional X-ray) department work on x-ray devices intended to guide surgeons during an operation. In their systems they use a number of PC´s for controlling movement and for image processing.
As Electrical Engineer I was responsible for the development of the required PC hardware for new and existing systems and for maintaining the quality of systems in the field.
My responsibilities and activities were:
- Specify required hardware and share with our suppliers
- Monitor the design process at our suppliers
- Evaluate samples and adapt requirements where needed
- Release new PC systems/hardware
- Monitor availability and life time of used hardware
- If required look for replacements
- Create test plan and preform tests together with a test engineer
- Prepare change request with supporting evidence/documents in Agile
- Discuss and defend change requests in the change request control boards
- Implement and monitor changes
I released two new PC systems in time and I successfully introduced an extra test at one of our suppliers to reduce the failure rate of that system in the field.
